Kassie's Weekend in Waterton!

A few months ago Kassie asked me to take her riding in Waterton! Of course I was more than happy to accomodate, so Saturday July 12, 2014 was set aside for our adventure!

Kassie came to the farm Friday with James and Deedee.

We played up at Red Rock Canyon.

We drove up to Cameron Lake and we saw a bear! (Can't prove that one as he boogied into the trees too fast for my camera!)

We saw this bear on the way up to Red Rock Canyon. She crossed the road right in front of our car.

This is my picture of the bear and her cub!

This is Kassie's picture of the bear and her cub!
He is so cute!
AND, this is the bear that we saw on the way into the townsite for ice cream!

That was a 3 bear trip!
Friday was a good day!

Now for the Adventure on horse back!
Dixie and Winner leading the way to Goat Lake! (That was our original plan).
Clear blue sky, mountains, green everywhere and warm!

Perfect!!!!

Tiffany joined Kassie and I for our Waterton Adventure!

A Tiffy selfie as we get started.

Kassie is riding Shasta!

We rode about an hour and then headed up the trail to Goat Lake. That was a very steep trail and the horses worked hard for us.  Tiffy is riding Tiffy's Lucky Wrangler.

This is the point at which we decided that it was too much for us and the horses to continue on. A very steep, narrow trail, and the horses would be scrambling on the rock. We wondered if we would get turned around!

See the trail to the left of Winner's nose, heading up to the waterfall? The lake is just up there, we were about 1/2 km from our goal, but we didn't want any extreme adventure!

We didn't make it to Goat Lake so plan B, let's go to Twin Lakes!

Oh I love it in the Mountains!

 Tiffy's picture of Kassie.

The girls having fun!

I love theses pictures!

Heading towards the end of a Perfect Day with my niece's!

What makes you think Kassie is a bit sore from a day in the saddle?

Vadnais Book Launch

On June 7th, 2014, Mom had a party to Launch the Vadnais Family history book. Grandpa (Laurier J Vadnais) wanted to have his family history complied into a book format, he worked on this along with Grandma (Laura Low Vadnais) in the last years of his life. It would have been nice to have completed this project before they passed away, but somethings are not so easy. This was a huge undertaking. Kevin Vadnais was the technical support for the project and Mom, (Anna Joy Vadnais Bevans) was the driving force to get all the info together.

We had dinner at the camp kitchen in Cardston. All the Vadnais siblings were there except for Gordon.

While we were waiting to eat Jean Eyre pulled out the hula hoop for some fun.

Tiffany showed us how easy it was!

Susie Q showed us how easy it was!

Kassie Lee also showed us how easy it was to "Hula Hoop!"

Aunt Mildred, (Grandma's sister) was there to make sure we did it all right! She is looking good for her early 90's!
To quote Aunt Mildred:
"I'm too old to die young!"
Mom explaining the details on the cover of the book as she was the one to design it!
Something like, Grandpa and Great Grandpa enjoying the kids, the cattle and the mountains!

Commenting on the last page of the book. Grandpa's favorite picture that he took of his horse Penny, the dog and of course Old Chief! "Where is the rider?"

All of the books in groups of 10 for each of the 6 siblings!

Keith Vadnais, Joy Bevans, Ken Vadnais, Lavern Vadnais, Mildred Jensen, Bruce Vadnais, Susan Parkins, Georgette Hricise and Phyllis Stapleton.

 The family with their spouses.
From Left to Right:
Keith & Alberta Vadnais, Ken & Pat Vadnais, Lavern & Kathy Vadnais, Aunt Mildred (seated) Bruce & Judy Vadnais, Susan Parkins, Georgette & Bill Hricise, Phyllis & Ed Stapleton ,
 Joy & Denver Bevans.

I'm so proud of Mom for working so hard to get this book published. It is a treasure to have and I'm sure we don't even have a clue as to its value in the years to come. I'm grateful for the heritage my Grandpa and Grandma Vadnais gave us, I love them and miss them. I'm so glad that I had a Grandma's house to go to for cookies and showers! It's always fun at Grandma's house!

Dixie: "See ya later Grandpa!"
Grandpa: "Hope so!"
